Country Grrrl is an independent blog dedicated to promoting female country artists. This blog covers country, americana, bluegrass, and everything in between!
Hi y’all! I’m Yasmine, a French 23 year-old country lover.
My first country song: ‘White Liar’ by Miranda Lambert
In France (and probably most of Europe), country music is completely inexistant and associated with line dancing and that one guy in town who thinks he’s a cowboy. After growing up in the pop bubble, from Britney to Peter Gabriel and the occasional hip pop, I discovered country with ‘Last Name’ by Carrie Underwood. Well technically, it was the Glee cover … And a Google search later, I fell on that Miranda Lambert song and never stopped listening to country ever since!
My favorite country GRRRLs: Loretta Lynn and Kelsey Waldon
Discovering Kelsey’s music was a long but truly rewarding online search, and a reality check on the state of Nashville regarding gender issues. THIS is why I decided to start Country GRRRL, a place where I share my discoveries of talented and well-deserving female country musicians.
My favorite country song: ‘House on a Hill’ by Kasey Chambers
My favorite country lyrics: “She says I wanna do right but not right now” (‘Look at Miss Ohio’, by Miranda Lambert, written by Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings)
